Travel Note

April 29th, 2025

Origin Story:

I had to travel to the Dominican Republic last minute. It was a stressful trip. But seeing how beautiful the water is made the trip feel worth it. These were the notes I made.

A rush of heat enveloped me as we stepped into the country.

It was raining on the unfamiliar concrete.

The ocean looks like it has no end.

Only the imaginary end your mind creates for your own sanity.
Making the sea and sky’s faces touch in a perfectly straight line.

Two shades of blue clashing,

effortlessly and neatly.

We passed a mermaid statue that was longingly staring at the sea from across the road.

There is blue and green and more luscious green.

Dogs roaming and using their precious faces to get food,

and men pissing against trees.

I might love the water more than I realize.

Just the other day, my mood burst into serene content simply because the air smelled like the water was near.
I blamed it on my mother, and how she would take me to the water as a child.

Perhaps this awe is yet another thing she’s passed on.

And even now, my head snapped behind me when I caught a glimpse of someone selling large conch shells on the roadside.

My love for the water has been reignited here.

At night, the ocean here looks like an abyss.

With no light pollution to reflect onto it,

it simply becomes a void I can’t find the beginning or end to.
So enveloped in darkness that from the car it could be imagined as a pitch black backdrop.

It’s actually quite unnerving.

The water Herself has made this trip feel worth it.
